Work Sample: Power of the Ocean

Power of the wavesGrowing up in Nova Scotia, the ocean has never been far away.

Much of my childhood and adolescence was spent on the sandy (and sometimes rocky) beaches of the cold North Atlantic Ocean, marveling at the sheer power of the waves and the surfers who dared take them on.

This photo shows the power of an incoming wave at Lawrencetown Beach – a premier spot for surfing in Nova Scotia. The tide pulling the smooth rocks back out to the ocean creates a hypnotic sound – like a thousand tiny knocks on a heavy stone door.

The wave pictured here is tame compared to what you may witness when a tropical storm or hurricane is rolling past the coast.
